I recently watched The Runaways and I thought I would share my thoughts.
What's it about?
Its basically a look into the life of the 70's All female rock group The Runaways. It focuses on Cherie Currie and Joan Jett and how they went from nobodies to rock history at the ages of 15 and 16.
It follows the short and not so sweet career of the Runaways and gives you a peak into Joan's more successful band post Runaways, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts.
There are some seriously dark undertones in this movie and I found it a little weird at times but it was really hard to turn away.
The music in the film is awesome. Its punchy and gritty and a big old shout out to David Bowie - as well as some weirdly convincing look-a-like scenes.
Dakota Fanning plays Cherie Currie and she is insanely good! The character she plays is only 15 and literally goes through everything the the 106 minutes. She goes from a small town, sweet kid to this crazy, out of control, substance abusing rock star and then back to sweet girl.
This film is a short glimpse into the life of the band and the 70's and bar the dark patches its a good movie.
I am not a massive fan of Kristen Stewart and I think she tends to play the same character in all her films but she really does suit the the Joan Jett persona. She's even an alright singer! I think the two leads fit the roles perfectly and I think Dakota Fanning especially is incredibly good in the movie. She might even be my new favorite actress!
World of advise
If you are not a fan of sex, drugs or rock & roll its probably not for you!
